Type Locality and Naming

The type section lies near Jinci Town, Taiyuan, Shanxi. It was named by E. Norin in 1922.


Lithology and Thickness

Clayey Sandstone. It is composed of gray-white and gray-brown fine- to medium-grained quartz greywacke intercalated with light-gray tuffs, marine black mudstone, thin coal seams, lenticular bioclastic rock and siderite nodules. In some local areas, the upper part contains 1 to 2 layers of bauxite. The formation varies greatly in thickness, from 19 m to 68 m.

Fossils

In the mudstone are contained plants Neuopteris pseudovata, Pecopteris cyathea, etc.; in the limestone are corals Lophocarinophyllum cf. acanthiseptum and Lophophyllidium cf. pendulum; brachiopods Avonia cf. echidniformis, Martinia semiglobosa, Chonetes aff. jungchangensis, etc.
